Extend ceasefire: Army Chief
India should extend further the Kashmir ceasefire to help in initiating a ``peace process'' in the State, the Chief of Army Staff, Gen. S. Padmanabhan, has said.

Pak. pleased with Hurriyat team
Pakistan tonight urged India to facilitate the travel of ``all members'' of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) to Islamabad for consultations to prepare the ground for a peaceful settlement of the Jammu and Kashmir issue.

 SAARC situation vital: Wahid
The Indonesian President, Mr. Abdurrahman Wahid, has said it is ``impossible'' to improve the relationship between India and Indonesia without a ``further improvement in the situation of the SAARC''.

'No invitation to Musharraf'
No invitation had been extended to the Pakistani Chief Executive, Gen. Pervez Musharraf, to visit India, the Prime Minister, Mr. A.B. Vajpayee's Principal Secretary, Mr. Brajesh Mishra, said here this evening.

 India, China ready to develop ties
Reaffirming that China did not pose a threat to India, the visiting Chinese leader, Mr. Li Peng, stressed the importance of Sino-Indian cooperation in the changed international situation.

 ANDi, the world's first GM monkey
Scientists have created the world's first genetically-modified monkey, a baby rhesus called ANDi. The feat could hasten the development of new treatments for a range of diseases, from diabetes and breast cancer to Parkinson's and HIV. ``It's a special step,'' said the head of the American team, Prof. Gerald Schatten. ``We're at an extraordinary moment in the history of humans.''

Bomb hoax at BJP office
A phone call warning of a bomb explosion at the BJP central office on Ashoka Road here proved to be a hoax.

SC gives time to Kerala
The Supreme Court has given six weeks to Kerala to file its response to an expert committee report on the fitness of the Periyar dam. The committee was constituted at the direction of the court.

 Mishra upbeat on new equation with Indonesia
The Prime Minister, Mr. A. B. Vajpayee, arrived in the picturesque island of Bali today for a three-day holiday, at the end of his formal meetings with the Indonesian leadership.
