Musharraf move distressing, sanctions cannot be lifted: U.S.
The Bush administration has said it is ``distressed'' at the decision of Gen. Pervez Musharraf to declare himself as President of Pakistan; and has made it known that this development will complicate matters.

All-party meet on July 9
The Centre today decided to convene an all- party meeting on July 9 ahead of the proposed visit by the Pakistan President, Gen. Pervez Musharraf, here from July 14 to 16.

`Siachen as peace park will help'
Concerned over environmental degradation and the loss of life in Siachen, a group of conservationists has proposed that the troops stationed there be withdrawn and the glacier be converted into a peace park. The proposal will be formally sent to the Prime Minister, Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee, ahead of his summit meeting with the Pakistan President, Gen. Pervez Musharraf, in Agra.

'Enron dispute will hit foreign investment in India'
The United States today warned that the Enron debacle would dampen flow of foreign investments into India and asked New Delhi to find a prompt solution to the issue.

Advani gesture
The Home Minister, Mr. L.K. Advani, has sanctioned Rs. 1 lakh for Mrs. Savita Ambedkar, nonagenarian wife of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, who has been suffering from health and financial problems. The amount was sanctioned from the Home Minister's discretionary grant.

15 SULFA men gunned down
ULFA militants gunned down 15 of their surrendered comrades and injured four others in Dibrugarh district today, official sources said.

Narayanan greets Musharraf
In an ironic twist to India-Pakistan relations, India appears to be the only nation smiling at Gen. Pervez Musharraf after he chose to appoint himself President of Pakistan.

Musharraf overruled two Corps Commanders
The Pakistan President, Gen. Pervez Musharraf, overruled two of his key Corps Commanders over engaging India in talks and over assuming the mantle of Presidency.
