I am not a politician: Fathima Beevi
By Our Special Correspondent
CHENNAI, JULY 2. The outgoing Tamil Nadu Governor, Ms. Fathima
Beevi, today insisted that she respected the Government, the
Constitution and the law of the land.
Making it clear that she did not want to try and justify her
handling of the situation arising out of the arrest of former
Chief Minister, Mr. M. Karunanidhi, Ms. Fathima Beevi said:
``Everyone is aware that I am not a politician. I respect the
Government, the Constitution and the law of the land. Politicians
can trade charges and retaliate. But a Governor cannot, at any
point of time, seek to justify his acts being done in accordance
with the Constitution and the law in the normal course of
discharge of duties.''
She thanked the President and the Government of India for having
given her an opportunity to serve Tamil Nadu, which she described
as ``one among the States known for its rich culture.''
She also thanked the people of Tamil Nadu for their love and
affection. ``My best wishes and prayers will always be with the
people of Tamil Nadu,'' Ms. Fathima Beevi added.
