A few coins is all she gets

In a down trodden
lane she lives,
Among the trash,
overflowing
This eight-year-old makes
her way carefully,
To a clearing in the
neighbourhood.
The bright sunshine,
The birds chirping,
the other children
still asleep,
She goes to the backyard
of the house
Where she works.
She is afraid of
her master
Working till noon for
half a rupee,
With the sound of
the coins
Her mother realises
her arrival;
At the end of the day,
A few coins is all she gets,
