By Our Staff Reporter

CHENNAI, JULY 14. The Madras High Court yesterday passed an interim direction, asking the Government to include 17 private engineering colleges in the Single Window System (SWS) of admissions this year.

Allowing a batch of 17 petitions filed by colleges, which obtained AICTE approval recently, Mr. Justice F.M. Ibrahim Kalifulla, said: ``The respondents are directed to include the names of the petitioner- institutions in the list of colleges participating under the Single Window System of the year 2001-02, and the petitioners shall furnish the necessary information about their institutions to the respondents''.

Twelve institutions had sought the court direction for being included in the SWS without the Government insisting on their obtaining an affiliation order from respective universities. They are the Savitha Engineering College, Sriperumpudur; the Meenakshi College of Engineering, Uthiramerur; the M.P. Nachimuthu and Jaganathan Engg. College, Chennimalai; the Nandha Engg. College, Erode; the Sasuri Institute of Engg. and Information Technology, Perundurai; the Vellalar College of Engg. and Tech., Erode; the Pavai Engg. College, Namakkal; Sri Nandhanam College of Engg. and Technology, Tirupattur; the Karpagavinayaga College of Engg. and Tech., Maduranthakam; the Srinivasa College of Engg. and Tech, Chengalpattu; and the Vivekananda College of Engg. for Women, Tiruchengodu.

Four petitioner-colleges had sought an interim direction to the Government to include them in the approved list of institutions for the SWS: Lakshmichand Rajani College of Engg. and Tech., Tiruttani; S.K.R. Engg. College, Nazerathpet; Bhajarang Engg. College, Tiruvellore; and Krishnasamy College of Engg. and Tech, Cuddalore.

The 17th petitioner - A.K. College of Engg., Kelambakkam, Chennai - wanted the Government directed to admit students not exceeding 50 per cent under the SWS.

It said the college had obtained the AICTE approval and Madras University affiliation for B.E. Computer Science and Engg., B.E. Electronics and Communication Engg. and B.Tech Information Technology, with an annual intake of 60 each.
