Follow Kamaraj principles: CM

By Our Staff Reporter

PONDICHERRY, JULY 15. Mere celebrations of the birth anniversary of the late Kamaraj would not be enough. One should adhere to the principles and policies to which the leader was committed, the Chief Minister, Mr. P. Shanmugham, said while paying tributes to Kamaraj on his 99th birth anniversary today.

He said that instead of aspiring for a cosy and comfortable life, those involved in public life should remember that promotion of the welfare of the poor should be the most important commitment.

Mr. Shanmugham said that after the death of Kamaraj, the Congress was tottering because of deviation from the path shown by the late leader.

Mr. V. Narayanaswamy, PCC leader, the Tourism Minister, Mr. A.V. Subramanian, the Agriculture Minister, Mr. N. Rangaswamy, legislators of the Congress and office-bearers of different wings of the party were among those who participated in the celebrations, organised by the Pradesh Congress.

Food packets distributed

Mr. Narayanaswamy distributed food packets to the poor as part of the celebrations. The Pudhuchery Makkal Congress president led a team of volunteers of his party to pay floral tributes at the statue of the leader at Pattanikadai junction.

Mr. R.R. Radhakrishnan, PMC legislator from Kuruvinatham, gave away a gold coin to R. Bharathi, a student who had come out with good marks through an education centre in the SSLC public examination.

The statue of Kamaraj was also garlanded by volunteers of the JD (S) under the leadership of Mr. Ganesan, president.
