We cannot brush Kashmir under the carpet: Musharraf
In what turned out to be a unique attempt to appeal directly to the Indian public and presumably intended to inject fresh momentum into a stalemated negotiating process at Agra, the visiting Pakistani President reiterated his case at a breakfast meeting with senior journalists and editors, that unless India acknowledged that Kashmir was the main issue of contention between the two countries, no progress could be made.

We will counter terrorism: PM
The Prime Minister, Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee, has over the last two days of the summit talks here been asserting the need ``to include the issue of cross-border terrorism'' in the ``ambit'' of the Kashmir issue.

CCS holds informal meeting
An informal meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) was held here today with the Prime Minister, Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee, holding talks with the External Affairs and the Defence Minister, Mr. Jaswant Singh, and the Home Minister, Mr. L.K. Advani, prior to his talks with the Pakistan President, Gen. Pervez Musharraf.

Six elected to RS from T.N.
While Mr. P.G.Narayanan of the AIADMK retains the Rajya Sabha seat, the party will have three new faces - Ms. Gokula Indra, Mr. R. Kamaraj and film comedian, Mr. S.S. Chandran- in the Upper House, with all of them being declared elected unopposed by the State Chief Electoral Officer, Dr. Mrutyunjay Sarangi.

Ajit Panja suspended
The Trinamool Congress tonight suspended the dissident party leader, Mr. Ajit Panja, pending enquiry, for his ``anti-party activities''. The national working committee of the party, which met here, constituted a five-member panel to probe the matter, the Trinamool Congress spokesman, Mr. Sudip Bandopadhyay said.

Suicide by Stalin associate
Mr. Ramesh, a close associate of the Chennai Mayor, Mr. M.K. Stalin, was found dead this morning along with his wife and children at their residence.

MEA spokesperson manhandled
The fiasco of a summit and frayed tempers led to an unpleasant incident at the media centre when the spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, Ms. Nirupama Rao, was virtually manhandled by the members of the Pakistan's media contingent.
