'We must start from Shimla, Lahore'
India today declared that the draft Agra
declaration could not be the basis for further engagement with
Pakistan. New Delhi is prepared to continue the engagement with
Islamabad on the basis of the Shimla accord and the Lahore
declaration.
Pak. dumb-struck
The military establishment in Islamabad is
`dumb-struck' at the `u-turn' by New Delhi on the Agra summit and
believes that the latest stance adopted by India is a serious
setback to the process of reconciliation and dialogue set in
motion during the three-day official visit of the Pakistan
President, Gen. Pervez Musharraf.
PM to make statement in Parliament
There were no surprises at the meeting of
National Democratic Alliance leaders here this evening. About 20
leaders of the ruling coalition got a detailed briefing on the
summit talks, they were told that the Prime Minister, Mr. Atal
Behari Vajpayee, refused to yield ground on issues of paramount
national interest, and in gratitude they congratulated him for
his boldness.
Pak. apologises for heckling of official
The Pakistan Government spokesman has
apologised to the External Affairs Ministry spokesperson, Ms.
Nirupama Rao, who was heckled by a group of Pakistani journalists
soon after a short midnight briefing on the outcome of the
Vajpayee-Musharraf summit in Agra on Monday, official sources
said today.
India goes ahead with CBMs
Unmindful of the `cold response' from the
military establishment in Pakistan, India is going ahead with
enforcement of the confidence-building measures (CBMs) announced
days ahead of the Agra summit.
Sondhi removed as ICSSR chairman
The Government today decided to remove Prof.
M.L. Sondhi from the chairmanship of the Indian Council of Social
Science Research (ICSSR) on the ground that he had lost the
confidence of the council members.
DMK to implead itself in PIL against Jayalalithaa
Raising its level of action on the legal front
against the AIADMK Government in the wake of the Karunanidhi
arrest episode, the DMK will implead itself in the public
interest litigation (PIL) in the Supreme Court challenging Ms.
Jayalalithaa's appointment as Chief Minister despite her
conviction in the TANSI land deal case.
Rs. 100 cr. for Orissa
The Prime Minister, Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee,
has sanctioned Rs. 100 crores for flood relief in Orissa, the
Crisis Management Group (CMG) was informed here today. Orissa had
sought Rs. 200 crores.
Blackwill the man for the job: Bush
The President, Mr. George W. Bush, has again
stressed his aim of transforming United States-India relations
and that this will be a pre-eminent priority of his
administration. The President made these remarks when the new
U.S. Ambassador to India, Mr. Robert Blackwill, called on him on

Two girl students killed
Two girl students were killed and 19 others
injured in a stampede in a primary school in the heart of the
city today, police said.
