ITC profit up 21 p.c.

KOLKATA, JULY 20. The net profit of ITC has risen by 20.76 per cent in the first quarter of 2001-02 to Rs. 300.67 crores from Rs. 248.97 crores in the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal.

Net sales have increased by 4.15 per cent to Rs. 1,047.89 crores from Rs. 1,005.99 crores. Other income amounted to Rs. 26.42 crores (Rs. 17.73 crores).

Interest charges were brought down by almost 20 per cent to Rs. 18.62 crores from Rs. 23.01 crores, following which the gross profit stood at Rs. 504.14 crores against Rs. 433.53 crores. Depreciation claims Rs. 38.03 crores (Rs. 37.81 crores). The provision for taxation is Rs. 165.44 crores (Rs. 146.75 crores).
