Selected for Prem Bhatia Award

NEW DELHI, JULY 26. Mr. Sankarshan Thakur, Associate Editor of The Indian Express, has been selected for this year's Prem Bhatia Award for Excellence in Political Reporting and Analysis for his ``outstanding work, most recently on the upheaval in Manipur''.

The award carries a cash component of Rs. one lakh and a citation. It will be presented on August 11 at the annual Prem Bhatia Memorial Lecture that will be delivered by the Vice- Chancellor of Delhi University, Prof. Deepak Nayyar.

The three Prem Bhatia Scholarships for media-related research by younger journalists will be presented to Ms. Indira Dharchaudhuri of Hindustan Times, Ms. Sangita Sharma of The Pioneer and Ms. Devyani of Rajasthan Patrika.

The decision was taken by the jury headed by Mr. Ajit Bhattacharjea, with Mr. S. K. Singh, Mr. George Verghese, Mr. Harish Khare, Mr. Madhavan Kutty and Mr. Inder Malhotra being the other members.
