Kerala Assembly to sit for more days
By Our Special Correspondent
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, JULY 26. The Speaker, Mr. Vakkom B.
Purushothaman, said here on Thursday that the Assembly would have
more number of sittings in the coming years.
The Speaker told presspersons that the Chief Minister, Mr. A. K.
Antony, had agreed to have more sittings when he took up the
matter with the Chief Minister. As the time available to members
to speak was being restricted, there was need for the House to
sit on more number of days than in the past.
Mr. Purushothaman said that the restrictions imposed on entry of
presspersons and members of the public to the Assembly complex
were well-intentioned though there were some mistakes in the
implementation. He said the issue of passes to journalists for
covering the Assembly would have to be restricted as their number
had increased considerably.
Though the security arrangements were being overseen by the same
persons who were in charge of them during the previous sessions
also, it appeared that some pro-LDF elements among the watch and
ward had acted with the intention of creating problems.
