Ambitious complex at Dwarka
By Our Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI, JULY 29.
Giving a fresh impetus to developmental activities in the fast
upcoming sub-city of Dwarka in South West Delhi, the Union Urban
Development Minister, Mr. Jagmohan, today inaugurated as many as
eight new development projects, including the ambitious ``Bharat
Vandana'' complex.
Spread over 200 acres in Sector 20 of Dwarka, the green-cum-
cultural ``Bharat Vandana'' complex would have a huge gate on the
pattern of India Gate, besides a green corridor, a vista lined
with green avenues and sculpted and a large plaza.
``Dwar'', the proposed gateway towards South West junction, would
not be to commemorate any victory as most other gateways signify,
but to celebrate the successful and deep rooted democracy in the
country. The purpose being to not only develop a place catering
to the recreational needs of residents, but also create a
landmark, with which people could identify with.
The complex, with elegant lighting, would be available to the
citizens even after other parks in the city would be shut down.
The large plaza will create an important node and would act as
one of the main ingresses into the adjoining gardens and cultural
complex.
A major feature is the Bharat Bhawan which is being developed
along with a broad cultural walk way, having several activities.
Theme gardens and open air theatre with a capacity of 5,000
people is also proposed in one part of the green.
Mr. Jagmohan said that efforts are on to make Dwarka a beautiful
sub-city, comparable with Krishna's Dwarka. He would also like to
change the map of the area around villages so that the benefits
of the development can be availed by the villagers. ``Planning
for facilities in Dwarka should be done in such a fashion so that
villagers could avail these facilities,'' he said.
During his morning trip to Dwarka, Mr. Jagmohan laid the
foundation for four parks at Sector 15 and 16 of the sub-city,
Kakrola, Command Tank and adjoining green at Sector 3 and a
stadium on slum land near Matiyala village. He also inaugurated a
sports complex at Sector 11 of Dwarka.
The DDA Vice-Chairman, Mr. P. K. Hota, asserted that Bharat
Vandana would be an architectural success story. ``It is a dream
to have a better development than that of India Gate and Bharat
Vandana is a step in that direction,'' he said.
Among those present on the occasion were the Outer Delhi MP, Mr.
Sahib Singh Verma, the Deputy Mayor, Mr. Rajesh Gehlot and senior
DDA officials.
