Cross-border terrorism will be defeated: Jaswant
The Government today made it clear it had the ``will and the strength to fight and defeat cross-border terrorism and did not need the assistance of anybody''. The assertion came during the External Affairs Minister, Mr. Jaswant Singh's intervention in the Lok Sabha on the inconclusive debate on the Agra summit.

 25 die in T.N. asylum fire
Twentyfive mentally ill persons, including 11 women, were killed and five suffered burns in a devastating fire which swept across a private home for mentally- ill at Erwadi, a tiny pilgrim centre 27 km. from Ramanathapuram in Tamil Nadu, early on Monday.

Sena MP not allowed to clarify remarks against PMO
The Shiv Sena MP, Mr. Sanjay Nirupam, - whose allegations against the Prime Minister's Office in connection with the Unit Trust of India scandal made headlines last week - was today not allowed by the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha to make a statement in the House. In view of continued tension, curfew remained in force today in three localities of Muzaffarnagar while security was beefed up in other parts of the city.

2 killed in Bihar firing
Two persons were killed and three others injured when police opened fire at flood victims who turned violent in Muzaffarpur district today.
