Heavy shelling by Pak. along LoC
JAMMU, AUG. 18. Pakistani troops today resorted to heavy mortar
shelling along the Line of Control (Loc) in several forward areas
in Poonch and Rajouri sectors, while one person was injured in
cross-border firing along the international border in Jammu
sector last night, official sources said here.
Indian troops retaliated and exchange of fire continued till this
morning. The shelling along the LoC took place in Sabzian,
Noushera, Bhimbergali, Kerni, Mendhar, Krishna Gati and Balakote
areas, sources said, adding that terrified villagers in some
areas of Noushera and Poonch abandoned their houses and sought
refuge at safer places.
However, there was no loss of life or damage to property on this
side. Pakistani troops also resorted to firing and shelling on
border outposts and civilian areas along the international border
in R.S. Pura, Samba, Hira Nagar and Akhnoor sub-sectors of Jammu
frontier since Friday. One civilian was injured in the firing at
Suchetgarh border outpost.
