Indore airport renamed
INDORE, AUG. 18. The Indore airport was today renamed ``Devi
Ahilyabai Holkar Airport'' to mark the 206th death anniversary of
Ahilyabai.
Speaking on the occasion, the Union Minister of State for Civil
Aviation, Mr. Chamanlal Gupta, said a request has been made to
the Madhya Pradesh Government to provide additional land for the
expansion of the runway to enable Airbus aircraft to land.
A proposal for developing a cargo centre at Indore airport was
under consideration, he said.
Later speaking to reporters, Mr. Gupta said the Central
Industrial Security Force would be deployed at all the 70
airports in the country within the next six months. On the
profitability of airports, he said ``only eight airports are
earning profits, but the remaining airports are being operated
due to social obligation''.
