PWG attacks police station again in Orissa
By Our Staff Reporter
KHAMMAM, AUG. 27. The Motu police station in the neighboring
Malkangiri district of Orissa (10 kms from Chintoor in Khammam)
was once again attacked by the PWG around 3 a.m. today. The armed
squads of the left wing extremist group, which were reported to
have suffered major casualties in an offensive launched on the
police station on August 9, drew a blank in its second attempt
too.
The station, where from the weapons were withdrawn after the
first incident, was reinforced only two days ago with two
platoons of armed personnel and 14 jawans who had undergone
greyhound training in Andhra Pradesh. It was sufficiently
fortified and sentry posts were arranged last week. The PWG
squads which fired from a distance about 200 metres could make
little impact.
Reinforcements were sent immediately from Chintoor and other
nearby Khammam police stations following a request from the
Orissa police. The Additional Superintendent (Operations), Mr.
Viswanath C. Sajjanar, also was rushed from Kothagudem to Motu.
But the naxalites managed to escape into the forest before the
A.P. police could arrive.
