Report on Cabinet Secretary's `letter' submitted
NEW DELHI, SEPT. 3. The Central Forensic and Scientific
Laboratory (CFSL) today submitted to the CBI its report on the
letter purportedly written by the Cabinet Secretary to the Prime
Minister's Office, opposing the disinvestment of Air India.
The CBI officials were tightlipped about the contents of the
report but there were indications that the CFSL had concluded
that the letter was not ``genuine.''
When the case was handed over to the CBI on August 24, agency
sources had said that they would chalk out the next course of
action only after receiving the CFSL report on the letter. And if
the letter was found forged, a probe would be launched. The issue
cropped up after the Congress leader, Mr. Priyaranjan Dasmunsi,
accused the Government of giving away an important PSU like Air
India to companies whose affiliates were being investigated for
alleged FERA violation.
