Federation to field candidates in civic polls
By Our Staff Reporter
CHENNAI, SEPT. 8. The Federation of Welfare Associations of
Pallavapuram has decided to field candidates from its affiliate
associations in the local bodies elections.
A federation release said the members had decided to put-up
candidates as they would be more sensitive to the needs of the
people and would also be free from corrupt practices. Member-
associations have been asked to choose candidates for councillors
and that of chairman by tomorrow.
Those chosen would have to furnish a written declaration assuring
members that they would refrain from corrupt practices, uphold
democratic norms and remain accountable to their association and
federation. Affiliate associations of the federation had endorsed
the resolutions to field candidates.
The president, Mr. V. Santhanam, said a manifesto detailing the
federation achievements and future plans would be released
shortly.
