Daughters of U.S. envoy to Pak. in Delhi

Pranab Dhal Samanta

NEW DELHI, SEPT. 21. The daughters of the U.S. Ambassador to Pakistan, Ms. Wendy Chamberlin, reportedly arrived here from Islamabad on Thursday in the wake of an imminent U.S. retaliation in the region following last Tuesday's terrorist attacks in the U.S.

Dubbed as a ``private decision'', sources said this was in line with the advice rendered by the U.S. State Department to American citizens in Pakistan to consider leaving the country for safety reasons. It is, however, not certain whether Ms. Chamberlin's daughters would leave for the U.S. or stay here for the time being.

The State Department had said on Tuesday that in view of the terrorist strikes, American citizens should ``take measures they deem appropriate to ensure their well-being, including consideration of departure from the country''. It is also learnt that there has been a scramble within the diplomatic corps in Islamabad for visas at the Indian High Commission.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Embassy here refused to say whether Ms. Chamberlin's daughters had flown in to the Capital citing security reasons.
