No foreign troops: Taliban
Peshawar, Sept. 29. The Taliban today dismissed reports that foreign troops were present in the areas controlled by the Islamic regime, saying they were ``false'' and a ``propaganda ploy.''

U.N. clamps down on terrorist outfits
Washington, Sept. 29. The U.N. Security Council acted with unprecedented speed on Friday when it approved a U.S.-sponsored resolution that mandates the 189 member nations to deny support and sanctuary to terrorists and their networks. The legally binding Resolution was adopted unanimously on Friday night.

Crackdown on SIMI continues
New Delhi, Sept. 29. In the continuing nationwide crackdown on the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), 122 activists were arrested on the second day today, taking the total number of arrests to 362.

Opposition should have been consulted: Farooq
Srinagar Sept. 29. The Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Dr. Farooq Abdullah, today regretted that the Centre had not taken the Opposition into confidence while deciding to ban the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI).

New Delhi, Sept. 29.The Union Home Minister, Mr. L. K. Advani, tonight ruled out a ban on the Bajrang Dal and said the Government had declared SIMI unlawful only after gathering adequate evidence.

'U.S. plane was on a limited mission'
New Delhi, Sept. 29. The Government today sought to clear the air surrounding the landing of a U.S. military aircraft on Friday by stating that the plane was engaged in a very limited mission: it transported six American personnel for duty with the U.S. Embassy here.

12 killed in hotel fire
Srinagar Sept. 29. At least 12 persons were killed when a fire broke out in a hotel in Sopore town of north Kashmir late last night. Nine bodies have been recovered from the debris till reports last came in. The fire, which spread to nearby buildings, gutted 30 shops and 18 godowns.
