TMC is no AIADMK puppet: Vasan

By Our Staff Reporter

TIRUNELVELI, OCT. 14. The TMC president, Mr. G. K. Vasan, today refuted the allegation that the TMC had become a puppet in the hands of the AIADMK, and reiterated that the party was functioning independently, following the footsteps of its founder, G. K. Moopanar.

Speaking to presspersons here, Mr. Vasan said the allegation was totally ``baseless.'' The party was functioning now in the same manner as it used to do during the period of Moopanar. The party selected the candidates for the local bodies elections on its own and only the loyal partymen were given the seats.

Asked about ``unanimous'' election of the heads of the local bodies reserved for the Dalits in Madurai district, Mr. Vasan said the Government had not ignored the issue and was working towards preventing recurrence of such incidents.

Referring to the remarks of the TNCC(I) president, Mr. E.V.K.S. Elangovan, squarely blaming the TMC leadership for the delay in the merger of the TMC with the Congress, Mr. Vasan said the cadres were now concentrating on strengthening the party.

Our Tuticorin Staff Reporter reports:

At a public meeting in support of candidates of the alliance partners including the TMC, the AIADMK, the CPI, the Forward Bloc and the INL here, Mr. Vasan, appealed to the electorate who had voted decisively in favour of the secular front in the May 10 Assembly poll, to renew their support to the front in the local body elections too.

The front was forged by his father, the late G.K. Moopanar, and the AIADMK general secretary, Ms. Jayalalithaa, to provide good governance to the State.
