Vandalism at Taj condemned
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI, OCT. 15. The Opposition today voiced its concern over
the incidence of vandalism by the Bharatiya Janata Party youth
wing workers at the Taj Mahal on Sunday.
The Congress said that words were not enough to denounce the
``diabolical occurrence.'' The party spokesperson, Mr. S. Jaipal
Reddy, said the incident gave a ``blinding glimpse into the
fascist side of the BJP'' and appealed to all to ponder over the
``dangerous character of the BJP ideology''.
The CPI(M) politburo criticised the ``shocking'' behaviour of the
youth wing workers and said the anti-social activities such as
defacing the marble facade of the monument by scribbling names,
misbehaving with tourists and clashing with security guards took
place while the top leadership of the BJP was present at the
conference venue in Agra which was addressed by the Prime
Minister, Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee.
The Samajwadi Party said the incident reflected the ``fascist and
rowdy'' mentality of the BJP. The party general secretary, Mr.
Amar Singh, said the youth were bound to go astray since they
were indoctrinated by the BJP's hate campaign against the
minorities.
