Bid on 2 J&K Ministers
By Shujaat Bukhari
JAMMU, OCT. 18. Two senior Ministers of the Farooq Abdullah
Government today escaped assassination bids in north Kashmir.
Police said militants fired two rifle grenades at a public
meeting at Delina in Baramulla district which was being addressed
by the Public Works Minister, Mr. Ali Mohammad Sagar. The
grenades, however, landed near the podium and exploded outside
the venue. The security personnel retaliated and evacuated the
Minister.
Late in the evening, the Rural Development Minister, Mr. Ajay
Sadhotra, escaped being shot when militants ambushed his convey
near Mirgund on the Baramulla-Srinagar national highway. The
militants continued to chase the Minister but his security guards
returned the fire and helped the Minister escape.
Mr. Sadhotra told The Hindu later that he was returning from the
border area of Gurez when the encounter took place. A journalist
accompanying him also escaped unhurt.
