EPF Pension scheme
Sir, - The Government promulgated an ordinance on November 15,
1995, called the EPF Pension Scheme, to accord pensionary
benefits to employees in the organised sector and in due course
this was made an Act. But this drew flak from the employees and
about 140 writ petitions were filed in various High Courts
against it. Later, all these were transferred to the Supreme
Court for the benefit of uniform application and so far judgment
has not come forth. All those who retired thereafter are awaiting
the judgment; employers also could not plan their next step. We
are left to eagerly watch this case - whether as for commoners
this case will also join the queue or get track-shifted to a fast
lane.
V.N. Krishnamurthy,
