 Northern Alliance forces enter Kabul
Kabul, Nov. 13. Greeted by cheering residents, Northern Alliance fighters captured Afghanistan's capital Kabul today in defiance of international pressure to stay out, after the city was abandoned by the Taliban under cover of darkness.

Appeal to U.N.
New Delhi, Nov. 13. The Afghanistan ambassador to India, Mr. Masood Khalili, today said that most of the forces of the Northern Alliance are behind the northern and southern gates of Kabul. Around 3000 to 4000 men belonging to the alliance have entered the city to ensure peace and tranquillity there.

Let Kabul be under U.N. charge: Pak.
Islamabad, Nov. 13. Pakistan today said that the Northern Alliance must not occupy Kabul and, pending the establishment of a political set-up acceptable to all Afghans and friendly to the neighbouring countries, it should remain a demilitarised city under the control of a U.N. peacekeeping force or a multinational force, authorised by the U.N. Council.

Major breakthrough: U.S.
Washington, Nov. 13. The United States has hailed the entry of the Northern Alliance into Kabul as a major military breakthrough in the war in Afghanistan and the U.S. warplanes are pursuing the fleeing Taliban and Al-Qaeda fighters.

 WTO talks headed for failure?
Doha, Nov. 13. As the clock kept ticking away to a midnight deadline of the World Trade Organisation's conference, trade ministers from both the rich and poor countries were frozen in their positions, persuading an African negotiator to say this evening that the ``gaps now seem too wide to be bridged'' to reach an agreement on the agenda for a new round of trade talks.

`Plane crash may be an accident'
Washington, Nov. 13. U.S. investigators today said initial information from the cockpit voice recorder retrieved from the wreckage of the American Airlines plane that crashed in New York indicated that the crash was an accident.

UJC rejects Hurriyat call
Srinagar, Nov. 13.The PoK-based ``United Jehad Council'', a grouping of 13 prominent militant outfits, today outrightly rejected the Hurriyat Conference's call for a ceasefire by all groups in Jammu and Kashmir.

Bill to curb foreign money
New Delhi, Nov. 13. The Government has decided to repeal the Foreign Contributions (Regulation) Act and enact a new law to curb and regulate flow of foreign funds to terrorist groups, Christian missionaries and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

Assam Govt. orders probe
Guwahati, Nov. 13. The Assam Government today ordered an official probe into a case of death and hundreds of cases of sickness caused in children in the State following administering of vitamin A drops on Sunday, as part of a UNICEF-sponsored anti- blindness drive.

New CJ for AP
New Delhi, Nov. 13. The President has appointed Mr. Justice Arunachalam Chettiar Lakshmanan, Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court, to be the new Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court.
