John Abraham award for 'Dannie'

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, JAN. 30. `Dannie', directed by T. V. Chandran, has won the John Abraham award for the best feature film in 2002 and `Kanavu Malayilekku' directed by M. G. Sasi, the award for the best documentary film. `Atman', directed by Jyothi Prakash, has bagged the award for the best short film.
The awards were instituted by the Federation of Film Societies of India, southern region. The federation secretary, V. K. Joseph, told presspersons here today that the best feature film would get Rs. 10,000, the documentary and short films Rs. 3,000 each, a citation and a statuette designed by C. N. Karunakaran.
The awards will be presented on March 31 in connection with the international film festival. The films were selected by a jury comprising B. Rajeevan as chairman, M. A. Rehman, Vijayakrishnan and Reji M. Damodaran, as member secretary, Mr. Joseph said.
Nine feature films, five documentaries and four short films had competed for the award, Mr. Joseph said.
