Constable killed in Ahmedabad

By Our Special Correspondent

AHMEDABAD MAY 17. The body of a police constable, attached to the Vejalpur police station in Ahmedabad, was recovered this morning from a field in the adjacent Sarkhej locality. Police could not say whether the killing was part of the communal riots in Gujarat or was due to any personal reasons. He was apparently stabbed to death. No other major incident was reported from any part of the riot-hit State.

Police burst a dozen teargas shells and lathicharged a mob which "gheraoed" the Khadia police chowki last night after three boys were picked up from the locality for questioning in connection with the manhandling of some fire brigade personnel last week.
