Gujarat
At its two-day central office-bearers' meeting, which concluded here on Saturday, the BJS also demanded a ``decisive war'' with Pakistan, review of the Indus Water Treaty between the two countries and reorganisation of Jammu and Kashmir. The party also proposed the name of its veteran octogenarian leader, Balraj Madhok, for the nation's Presidency. While supporting the creation of a `Hindu Rashtra' in India, the BJS in its resolution criticised the BJP zealots for trying to accelerate the process of Hindu Rashtra. ``Instead of adopting democratic means such as creating public opinion in favour of Hindu Rashtra, getting the people's mandate and amending the Constitution to that effect, they indulged in a bloodbath. The BJP Government too turned a Nelson's eye (to the communal violence) which is highly deplorable.'' While urging the people, particularly in Gujarat, to eschew violence in all forms, the BJS appealed to all political parties, including the BJP, not to ``fish in troubled waters to gain political mileage''. Terming the Indus Water Treaty as ``unjust, irrational and one-sided'', the Jan Sangh said ``India's water needs have increased manifold because of the increase in population. Its demand for electricity too has increased but the treaty does not allow us to use the waters of the Sutlej, the Beas and the Ravi in our own territories. Therefore, there is a strong case for a review of this treaty.'' Tracing the root of the Kashmir problem to ``its internationalising by Pandit Nehru and Sheikh Abdullah'', the BJS demanded the re-organisation of the State by integrating Jammu and Ladakh fully with the rest of India and working out a new arrangement for the Kashmir Valley. It also demanded abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution, which accorded special status to the State. The party said a part of the Kashmir Valley should be earmarked for the resettlement of Kashmiri Hindus who have been driven out of their homeland. While calling for a ``decisive war'' with Pakistan, the BJS urged the Government to extend moral, diplomatic and political support to the Pakhtoon, Sindhi and Balochi ethnic groups in Pakistan who are struggling for self-determination. The party also proposed the name of its national president, Balraj Madhok, for the Presidency. PTI
