Another feather in Dravid's cap

By Mohandas Menon

** The catch of Tendulkar was Ridley Jacobs' 150th dismissal in 43 Tests. He becomes only the second West Indian keeper, after Jeff Dujon (270 dismissals in 79 matches) and the 18th overall to reach this landmark.

He now has 153 dismissals (including six stumpings). Incidentally Dujon needed 45 matches to reach this milestone.

** Jacobs' five dismissals (4 ct + 1st) equals the West Indian wicket-keeping record for most dismissals in an innings against India. David Murray at Delhi in 1978-79 and Jeff Dujon at Kingston in 1982-83 are the others to do so.

** Rahul Dravid (100 retired hurt) who recorded his 14th Test hundred in 65 Tests, registered his fourth 100-plus innings in a row. Dravid had earlier made 115 at Nottingham, 148 at Leeds and 217 at The Oval during the recent Test series in England.

He joins Australian Jack Fingleton (from 1935-36 to 1936-37) and South African Alan Melville (from 1938-39 to 1947) in the four-in-a-row club.

However, Dravid still needs another hundred to equal the Test record of 5 hundreds in a row held by West Indian Everton Weekes from 1947-48 to 1948-49.

** Dravid made the 2632nd hundred in Tests, but his was only the 8th in Test history when a batsman had to retire hurt/ill after scoring a hundred.

Dravid joins Dilip Vengsarkar (102 retired hurt against West Indies at Calcutta in December 1987) as the second Indian batsman who had the misfortune of retiring hurt/ill after scoring a hundred.

For the record, the highest ever Test score by a batsman who had to retire hurt/ill was the 165 by Australian Charles Bannerman against England at Melbourne in March 1877, which incidentally was the first ever Testto be played.

** Javagal Srinath's 31 was the third highest score by an Indian No. 11 in Tests.

The top two scores remains as the 50 by Ghulam Ahmed (against Pakistan at Delhi, 1952-53) and 41 by Shivlal Yadav (against Australia at Adelaide in 1985-86).

The previous highest score by an Indian against the West Indies at number 11 was the unbeaten 20 by Bishan Singh Bedi at Bridgetown in April 1971.

** Parthiv Patel's 21 not out was his highest Test score in three Tests. His previous highest was the 19 not out against England at Nottingham two months ago.
