This Day That Age
H. W. Austin, the famous British Tennis star popularly known as "Bunny" Austin who passed through Madras October 23, on his way to Colombo advised young Indian players to practise hard and improve their standard of game. Austin was on his way to Colombo to attend the Asian Moral Rearmament Conference as one of the British delegates. In an exclusive interview to the representatives of The Hindu, Austin said that hard practice and constant play alone, more than anything else, helped to improve one's game of tennis. "There is no other way but of playing and practising,'' he said. Referring to the present trends in organised coaching followed by many countries of the world; Austin said that he personally believed that constant playing and hard practice alone were of greater value than any other aid. Answering a query, he said that he reached the top rung in tennis just by an accident. He, however, would not on that account, discourage the idea of coaching or of creating facilities for systematic training.
