SC ruling on VRS

New Delhi May 23. The Supreme Court has held that once an employer accepted the Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS) application of an employee, he or she cannot withdraw from the scheme, even if the person continued in service beyond the cut-off date, due to lack of funds to settle his dues.

On Thursday, a Bench comprising Justice Shivraj V. Patil and Justice Arijit Pasayat gave the ruling, disposing a batch of petitions concerning the VRS acceptance of certain employees of the Andhra Pradesh State Industrial Development Corporation.
