Youngest on Everest

KATHMANDU: A 15-year-old Nepalese Sherpa girl has scaled Mount Everest, becoming the youngest person to climb it, just days ahead of the 50th anniversary of the conquering of the world's highest mountain, news reports said on Sunday. Mingkipa (15) reached the 8,850-m summit on Thursday with her sister Lakpa (30) and brother Mingma (24), according to the Himalayan Times newspaper. If Mingkipa's (in picture) record is recognised, she will break the previous one set by Temba Tsheri of Nepal, who climbed the mountain just days after turning 16. Eightyfive climbers have climbed the mountain since May 22. — AP, PTI
