Omar regrets he was part of Ministry

By Shujaat Bukhari

Srinagar June 29. The National Conference president, Omar Abdullah, has expressed anguish over the Best Bakery carnage case verdict. Lashing out at the Vajpayee-led Government for being silent on the issue, he regretted being part of it as a Minister till last year.

In a statement here, Mr. Abdullah said: "A little more than a year ago, the Government of India of which, regrettably, I was a part at the time, sat on its hands while thousands of innocent men, women and children were brutally murdered in Gujarat. Their only crime was that they were Muslims.

"It is, therefore, a matter of great concern that today justice is no longer blind to caste, creed and religion. While those allegedly guilty of the despicable act that took place in Godhra have been locked under POTA and are now being treated as terrorists, those allegedly responsible for the massacre that followed are gradually being set free.
