Anti-Polio drive in Raichur District

By Our Staff Correspondent

Raichur July 9 . The Raichur District administration will begin a three-day special programme on July 27 to administer polio drops to children below five years.

A district-level Polio Task Force meeting was held here on Wednesday in this regard. The Deputy Commissioner, G.N. Nayak, chaired the meeting.

Mr. Nayak said the "polio hatao" programme would be implemented in 10 districts of northern Karnataka and three border districts of Andhra Pradesh in the wake of the recent detection of a polio case at Uppar village in Bellary taluk.

He said 2,76,165 children below five years had been identified in the district. Of them, 2,12,366 children were from rural areas.

Mr. Nayak said 1,173 teams had been formed to administer polio drops to children.

He said 2,346 representatives and 239 supervisors had been appointed, and 121 vehicles arranged for the programme.

Urging the parents to administer polio drops to their children during the programme, he appealed to the social organisations, religious leaders, social workers, and representatives of rural and urban civic bodies to conduct ward meetings to create awareness in this regard.

He directed the Education Department to issue a circular to all schools in the district asking the heads concerned to inform students about the programme.
