Sahara is India's new sponsor

NEW DELHI JULY 9. Sahara is Indian hockey's new sponsor. The Sahara India Pariwar and the Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) struck the sponsorship deal in Lucknow on Wednesday by which the junior and senior Indian men's teams will be sponsored by the group.

The new sponsorship deal comes in the wake of the pull out by Castrol. Announcing the sponsorship, the Chairman of the Sahara Group, Subrata Roy said, "Sahara India Pariwar is indeed very proud to be associated with Indian hockey teams. While the seniors are showing their class and caliber... the juniors are the defending world champions. I am sure our association with the Indian Hockey Federation would be towards a mutually beneficial cause and a positive step towards reviving the `golden days' of Indian hockey.''

The IHF President, K.P.S. Gill and the Secretary, K. Jothikumaran, welcomed the move by Sahara to sponsor men's hockey and expressed the confidence that the boys would perform well in the Olympic Games next year.

According to the understanding reached, the senior and junior India teams will sport the Sahara colours at all international Test matches, tournaments and ceremonies. Sahara will be the exclusive and official sponsor of both the teams.
