Kolhapur rly. station to be renamed
By Our Special Correspondent
MUMBAI
JULY 9.
The Kolhapur railway station in Maharashtra is to be renamed as `Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Terminus' after the social-reformer king of Kolhapur , who brought about reservations for the backward classes over a century ago.
Shahu Maharaj was a descendant in the lineage of Chhatrapati Shivaji.
Along with Babasaheb Ambedkar and Mahatma Jyotiba Phule, he forms a trio of reformists people swear by in this State.
The Railway Minister, Nitish Kumar has conveyed the decision to rename the station after Shahu Maharaj to the Union Petroleum Minister, Ram Naik.
The Maharashtra Government has complied with the requirements and would soon issue a notification.
