By S. Vijay Kumar
Based on a complaint preferred by a Delhi-based businessman, K.B. Sachan, the "Cyber Crimes Cell" attached to the Delhi Police launched a manhunt for S. Ranjith (20), who allegedly used a popular online public auction system on the Indiatimes.com website to cheat people. According to a police officer, his modus operandi was to place the sale offers of mobile phones with attractive features on the website. He would then receive the cash from the highest bidder without sending him the mobile. The accused cheated several people like this who complained to different agencies. In a predawn operation, the CBI officials swooped down on the Sathamangalam residence of Ranjith, a final-year diploma student in a local engineering college, and whisked him away. A cheating case under Section 420 IPC has been registered against him and he has been taken to New Delhi.
