Museum planned at Churu

By Our Staff Correspondent

JAIPUR AUG. 6. A Government museum is proposed to be established in the district headquarters town of Churu in northern Rajasthan to preserve the rich cultural and archaeological heritage of the region. The museum will also attract more tourists to the town.

The State Tourism, Art and Culture Secretary, Lalit Panwar, stating this here today, pointed out that the old mansions and temples in Churu had a huge potential for promotion of tourism. He inspected a land plot near Krishi Upaj Mandi in the town for the museum's construction early this week.

Mr. Panwar said an art gallery in Churu could also preserve the old traditions and offered the State Government's help for conservation of historical relics and artefacts stockpiled in "Nagar Shri'' centre of the Lok Sanskriti Shodh Sansthan, if the objects were handed over to the Government.

The mansions in Churu, such as Bagla Haveli, Malji Ka Kamra, Kotharion Ki Haveli, Baidon Ki Haveli and the Shantinath Jain temple are famous for the intricacies of their designs and illustrations.
