KANCHEEPURAM AUG. 12. Thousands of devotees including dignitaries received blessings from the Kanchi Sankaracharya, Sri Jayendra Saraswati, here on the occasion of his 69th jayanthi today. A procession with 69 colourful umbrellas was taken out. Special poojas were performed at the Kamakshi temple. An abishekam with 108 pots of milk was performed to the presiding deity, in the presence of the Acharya. The Sankara Mutt here wore a festive look, with Vedic scholars chanting Vedas and performing poojas at the Mahasamadhi of the Paramacharya. A `pushpabishekam' (abishekam with flowers) was performed to Sri Jayendra Saraswati. He distributed welfare assistance to poor people.
