In response to a resolution adopted by the BJP State women's wing at its executive meeting here on August 19, requesting the State Government to name Kotturpuram after M.S.Subbulakshmi, her secretary, K. R. Athamanathan, writes: ``While Smt. M.S. Subbulakshmi and her family thank all those who have taken the trouble of passing the above resolution on account of their loving admiration for her, she recalls how her late husband, T. Sadasivam, a veteran freedom fighter of the Gandhian days, and revered Rajaji, who was their mentor and hero in public life, never liked to perpetuate their own memory in anyway. Especially they never liked changing the existing names of streets and colonies. Their respect for history dictated such an attitude on their part. M.A. Chidambaram, the noted philanthropist, and Sangeetha Kalanidhi, D.K. Pattammal, have been residents of Kotturpuram long before she herself moved there and so, Smt. Subbulakshmi requests everybody concerned to drop forthwith the proposal to name Kotturpuram after her''. (The resolution was adopted as her residence was located at Kotturpuram).
