Russia hails proposals

By Vladimir Radyuhin

MOSCOW OCT. 23. Russia has welcomed India's new peace overtures to Pakistan and expressed the hope that Islamabad would accept them.

Recounting the proposals made by the External Affairs Minister, Yashwant Sinha, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Moscow "has always advocated the return of relations between the two neighbouring states of South Asia to the peaceful path on the basis of dialogue in the spirit of the Shimla and Lahore agreements. Moscow hopes that India's initiatives will meet with a positive response in Islamabad."
