Bail denied to Godhra carnage accused

Ahmedabad Oct. 30. A POTA court today rejected the bail application of the former Godhra Municipality Chairman, Muhammed Hussain Kalota, one of the prime accused in the Sabarmati Express carnage, saying his release could influence witnesses and evidence.

The POTA court Judge, Sonia Gokani, in her order this evening, observed that Kalota was not only present at the site of the crime on February 27, 2002 while the miscreants were burning the train, he was even instigating the mob.

He was neither innocent nor falsely implicated in the case. Besides, if released on bail, his position in society could influence witnesses and evidence, she added.
