The latest on the subject of cross-border terrorism has come from the National Security Advisor, Condoleezza Rice, when she was asked at the New York Foreign Press Centre to what extent the Bush administration believed that Islamabad had indeed dismantled the infrastructure of terrorism within its territory that operated in Afghanistan and in Kashmir. "... it is absolutely the case that the infrastructure of terrorism has to be dismantled. It is absolutely the case that everybody needs to do more and Pakistan needs to do more to make sure that there cannot be terrorist acts taken in from Pakistan or from Kashmir against targets there and we frequently talk to the Pakistanis about that," Dr. Rice remarked. "It is also important that India provide a horizon which I think Prime Minister Vajpayee is beginning to try to do, that says when we are working together on a whole variety of issues, then we'll have a better atmosphere for this. But the Pakistanis have really done an awful lot. And I think it's just important to acknowledge that," Dr. Rice stressed. Asked about the role of the United States, the senior administration official said that the parties India and Pakistan ultimately have to play the important role. "But the United States stands by to do whatever we can to help... "
