Congress denies ticket for Dy. CM's nephew in M.P.

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI NOV. 3. The Congress today released its second list, containing five names, for the Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections. It has announced 225 candidates so far. The party is yet to declare the names for four constituencies.

The significant aspect of today's list is the decision to the deny ticket to a close relative of the Deputy Chief Minister, Jamuna Devi. She had sought nomination for her nephew, Umang Singar, from the Dharampuri Assembly constituency.

The Chief Minister, Digvijay Singh, said the party's election and screening committee, which went through each constituency did not share the perception of the Deputy Chief Minister that her nephew could pull it through.

Ms. Devi has been upset over the denial of ticket. Nahar Singh will contest from the constituency.

The party also cleared the name of Balendu Shulka (Gwalior), who has the backing of Jyotiraditya Scindia, MP. The party has allotted the Khairlangi Assembly seat for the Republican Party of India under an existing pact.

Mr. Digvijay Singh said the party has held up the list for the remaining seats for "strategic reasons'' and would finalise it shortly.
