Police officer who busted immigrant racket shifted

CHANDIGARH NOV. 5. Paramraj Singh Umranangal, Punjab's senior police official, who unearthed the alleged illegal human trafficking case against the popstars, Daler Mehndi and Sukhwinder Singh Mann, was tonight shunted out to a less significant post as the Amarinder Singh Government carried out the biggest reshuffle in police administration — involving 111 officers.

Mr. Umranangal, who was the Senior Superintendent of Police, Patiala, when he brought the case to light, was shifted to Mohali as the commandant of Punjab's police commando unit.

Continuing with its spree of transfer of senior and middle-level police officers, the Government issued orders to 65 Deputy Superintendents of Police in addition to an earlier reshuffle of 46 officers — including 15 of the IPS — of the rank of Superintendent of Police. The two lists of transfer orders issued tonight were in addition to the reshuffle of 29 senior officers yesterday. — PTI
