Letters to the Editor
Sir, It is shocking to note that the Mathamma ritual (offering girl children to Goddess Mathamma) persists in parts of southern India, in spite of the official claim to the contrary ( Nov. 1 ). The evil motivation for such practices must be eradicated along with the forces that lend support to them. Denial of education is the root cause of all evils. The practice has made sexual exploitation of young girls easier.
