Paswan demands dismissal of T.N. Govt.

By K. Balchand

PATNA Nov. 9. The former Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party president, Ram Vilas Paswan, today urged the President to dismiss the Jayalalithaa Government ``for failing to protect the freedom of an individual''.

Reacting to the Tamil Nadu Speaker's order to arrest three directors and two senior journalists of The Hindu and the Editor of Murasoli, Mr. Paswan said the attack on the Press was a direct subversion of democracy.

The Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, should not shirk his responsibility by merely expressing his concern over such a serious issue and should take steps to protect the freedom of the Press, particularly in the case of The Hindu ``as it happened to be an impartial and secular paper''.

``The Press is the fourth pillar and any damage to it would amount to the murder of democracy,'' he said.
