DMK, CPI (M) seek people's support for human chain

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI NOV. 9. The DMK and the CPI (M) have called upon people to take part in the November 12 human chain protest in large numbers.

The protest will be held in district headquarters against the Speaker, K. Kalimuthu, ordering the arrest of five members of The Hindu, the editor, Murasoli, and the DMK MLA, Parithi Ilamvazhuthi. Mr. Ilamvazhuthi is serving the 30-day sentence.

In an appeal, the DMK president, M. Karunanidhi, said this was a continuation of the undemocratic practices of the AIADMK Government. He was concerned about the direction in which Tamil Nadu was headed.

The CPI (M) State committee, which condemned the Speaker's order, said all sections should participate in the human chain.

Theekkathir journalists to observe fast

Journalists and other employees of Tamil daily, Theekkathir, will stage a fast in front of their office here tomorrow, as a mark of protest against the Tamil Nadu Assembly's decision to award 15 days sentence to five members of The Hindu and the Editor, Murasoli.

The fast will be held between 8 a.m and 5 p.m. at the Theekkathir office (2/38, Kuyavar Street, East Jones Road, Saidapet), a release from the Tamil daily said.
