Mr. Ilamvazhuthi is serving the 30-day sentence. In an appeal, the DMK president, M. Karunanidhi, said this was a continuation of the undemocratic practices of the AIADMK Government. He was concerned about the direction in which Tamil Nadu was headed. The CPI (M) State committee, which condemned the Speaker's order, said all sections should participate in the human chain.
