B. Ramamurthi passes away

Dr. B. Ramamurthi

CHENNAI DEC. 12. Dr. B. Ramamurthi, veteran neurosurgeon, passed away at his residence a little past midnight tonight after a brief illness. He was 81.

A pioneer in neurosurgery in India, Dr. Ramamurthi was born on January 31, 1922. He started the neurosurgery department at the Government General Hospital in 1950. He was Dean of the Hospital and Principal, Madras Medical College. He also started the neurosurgery unit at the Voluntary Health Services, Adyar, in 1977. He was president of the World Federation of Neurosurgeons in 1987.

He is survived by his wife, Dr. Indra Ramamurthi, obstetrician and gynaecologist, and two sons — - Mr. R. Vijayaraghavan, journalist, and Dr. R. Ravi, neurosurgeon.
