Musharraf happy over peace moves

ISLAMABAD, FEB. 19. The Pakistan President, Pervez Musharraf, has expressed the hope that Islamabad and New Delhi will remain meaningfully engaged in resolving all outstanding issues, including the Kashmir issue.

Speaking to a delegation of Troika of European Union, now on a visit here, Gen. Musharraf expressed satisfaction on the moves being made by the two countries in confidence building and towards normalisation.

Speaking on behalf of Troika, Brian Cowen, Foreign Minister of Ireland, said the European Union valued its relations with Pakistan and supported the moves being made by Pakistan and India to solve their differences in the interest of peace and progress of the region.

The delegation, which includes Bernard Rudolf Bot, Foreign Minister of the Netherlands, and Chris Patten, European Union Commissioner for External Relations, called on Gen. Musharraf on Wednesday and expressed support to the India-Pakistan moves to resolve their differences.

In a related development, the Foreign Secretary, Shashank, met the Pakistan Foreign Minister, Khurshid Mehmud Kasuri, on Wednesday and expressed the hope that the dialogue process between the two countries would continue and address all outstanding issues, including Jammu and Kashmir. He was accompanied by the Indian delegation at the meeting.

Other matters of bilateral interest and the follow up to the 12th SAARC summit held in Islamabad early this year figured in the talks. Mr. Shashank today left for Lahore en route to Delhi.
